Samurai I: The Legend of Musashi Synopsis :

Matahachi (Rentaro Mikuni) og hans bedste ven, Takezo (Toshirô Mifune), forlader deres landsby for at slutte sig til hæren. Efter at have lidt nederlag i krigen søger de tilflugt hos en enke og hendes datter. Matahachi lader sig forføre af enken, Oko, og glemmer alt om sin trolovelse med den kyske Otsu. Matahachi, Oko og hendes datter Akemi rejser bort sammen, mens Takezo vender tilbage til landsbyen. Her beretter han om rejsen, men da Matahachis familie nægter at tro på fortællingerne, bliver Takezo arresteret for forræderi og har udsigt til en dødsdom. En munk redder ham og dømmer ham til at studere samuraiens love. Otsu og Takezo forelsker sig, og hun lover at vente på ham, mens han drager ud i verden for at lære samuraiens kunst.
